The heading at the top of the page reads: 'Schedule 'A' - Rates and Interest Written off during the year 19__.' The register covers the years 1927 through to 1948. Details provided in the volume include the Assessment Number and Riding; Name of Person or Body Assessed; Amount of Current Rates; Arrears of Rates; Amount of Interest; and the Reason for Writing Off.Inside the front page of the register is a loose page from a Government Gazette, No. 90 of 8 July 1927, which states that: 'Moneys due to a council shall not be written off except upon a resolution of the council' and that 'Rates shall not be abandoned or written off except by reason of errors in assessments, the adverse verdict of a Coutr, if the rates are not recoverable at law, or if in the opinion of the auditor it would not be economical to take proceedings for the recovery of the rates.
