Rhizobium tropici CIAT 899. It is a typical R. tropici type B strain. This strain was isolated from a common bean nodule but has a broad legume host range. It is highly tolerant to a variety of abiotic stresses and is a good competitor for bean nodule occupancy in acidic soils. It is also a good plant-growth-promoting maize rhizosphere and root endophytic colonizer. Genome sequencing of this strain is expected to help understand its stress endurance, broad host range and endophytic life style.
