Microbial composition of Kefir- UDI strain using shotgun and amplicons metagenomics. Metagenomic of Kefir-UDI strain

Kefir is a probiotic from the Caucasus region that contains compounds from bacterial metabolism and yeasts with anti-inflammatory action. The sample DNA (kefir grain and liquid part) was extracted and two DNA libraries were built: one for sequencing the 16S region to identify bacterial species and another library containing total DNA for sequencing genomes. 6 data gases were generated. Using the 16S sequencing data, five species of bacteria were identified, with Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens being the most abundant species. With shotgun sequencing data, the genomes of Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens and Acetobacter_orientalis were almost completely annotated. The genomic data are being compared with the functional kefir metabolome already obtained by the group.
