The remains of a chalk barge bed on the Thames foreshore, below 'Charles Hay & Son' Rotherhithe, London. Date: 18th Century. Chalk beds were used as soft material for ships/boats to lay on when docked at low tide. The chalk stops the underside of the boat from being damaged by the foreshore. This one lies under a later layer of hard material which is being eroded to reveal the chalk beneath. Amongst the chalk and nearby are large quantities of discarded ship nails and other metal work. 167 photos taken in February 2020 with a Sony a6000 and processed in Reality Capture.
