Fungal occupants of carnivorous Sarracenia purpurea pitchers

We sequenced the fungal communities in carnivorous Sarracenia purpurea pitcher plants to understand how microbial communities change over succession. We found that a single yeast species, Candida pseudoglaebosa, dominates the entire group of pitchers, but does not dominate every individual pitcher. Fungi were sequenced in samples between four days and two months after pitchers had opened (and were colonized), and the group of pitchers occupied a bog in western Massachusetts.
