资源简介:
NPRB project R0202, applied advanced sonar technology and underwater video in a cooperative industry /government effort to identify ways to modify pelagic trawls to reduce salmon bycatch in Alaska pollock fisheries. The Dual-frequency Identification SONar (DIDSON) provided detailed observations of the behavior of these two species within pelagic trawls. Observations in conventional trawls fueled initial separation concepts based upon behavioral differences. Sonar imagery was supplemented with underwater video to for dentification and confirmation purposes. Ambient conditions (depth, light level and temperate) at the trawl were recorded with a sensor/logger. The position of the towing vessel (F/V Gladiator) was recorded at the start and end of each tow and at intervals thoughout towing. These datasets were archived as part of the North Pacific Research Board legacy project recovery effort undertaken by Axiom Data Science and NPRB in 2025. The goal of the recovery effort was to assess the NPRB-funded data projects from 2002 to 2014 and archive final data packages that were ready for publication to increase long-term accessibility and discoverability. Data packages were archived as is given limited funding and resources.
