PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing chemical pulp that can improve the yield of carefully selected pulp and can reduce a kappa value， and a pulp digestion aid. SOLUTION: A method for producing chemical pulp includes subjecting a lignocellulose material to alkali digestion or sulfite digestion in a chemical solution containing a radical scavenger and a nonionic surfactant. There is also provided a pulp digestion aid containing a radical scavenger and a nonionic surfactant. SELECTED DRAWING: None
