Comparative genomic analysis of two related Serratia marcescens clinical isolates showed that the G690del mutation in the cpxA gene, which encodes the histidine kinase of the two components system CpxA/CpxR, was responsible for a premature stop codon leading to a truncated protein. The mutant displayed an acquired resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins, aminoglycosides and ciprofloxacin.
