VPRS 5879 Periodicals Subscriptions Order Books

From the period of its establishment in 1856 through to 1944 the library had been administered by a Board of Trustees who was responsible for managing and controlling the Public Library, National Museum, Industrial and Technology Museum and the National Gallery and to formulate policy in regard to these agencies. In 1944 separate boards of Trustees were established for each agency.According to the Libraries Act 1928 the Trustees were required to report annually the proceedings of the corporation during the previous year to the Chief Secretary. The annual report was required to contain a full account of the income and expenditure of the corporation to be duly audited by the Auditor General. A copy of the report was to be laid before Parliament.This series consists of two volumes recording the periodicals that the Trustees of the Library ordered from both Australia and overseas. The collection included annual reports, Hansards, calenders, newspapers, magazines, reviews, directories, foreign publications such as the London Quarterly.
