Pathogenicity and Transcriptome Analysis of a Strain of Vibrio owensii in Fenneropenaeus merguiensis

This research reported a dominant bacteria strain E1 isolated from a shrimp pond using a biofloc culture method, which was further identified as Vibrio owensii. To understand interaction between the Vibrio and the host shrimp, we studied the pathogenicity of the Vibrio owensii and the molecular mechanisms of the shrimp immunity during the Vibrio invasion. In addition, drug susceptibility tests were performed on the isolated Vibrio owensii, which showed that the Vibrio was resistant to antibiotics streptomycin oxacillin, tetracycline, minocycline, and aztreonam. The Vibrio was highly sensitive to cefazolin, cefotaxime, and ciprofloxacin. It was also moderately sensitive to cefotaxime, ampicillin, and piperacillin.
