ClasSFood is a food nomenclature built as part of the INNOV project 2018-2020 (under the INRAE DID’IT metaprogramme). It is based on the French food supply and consumption. It has been adapted from an already existing nomenclature: the product nomenclature in 6 levels used in the survey "Enquête Budget des familles (BDF) - 2005-2006", carried out by INSEE. Food categories are designed according to their nutritional, environmental and processing characteristics. Thus, this classification is suitable to perform relevant analysis dealing with food sustainability while taking into account the consumption patterns of the French population (that is substitutability between food products). As a hierarchical scheme, foodstuffs are described at different levels of detail allowing for analysis of the whole diet at an aggregated level or analysis of some very specific categories described in great detail.
