Enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPRs) is the most reliable wastewater treatment method widely relying on microbial communities to remove phosphate from wastewater. Despite their stability and widespread usage, little is known about their microbial composition and activity. In the study, high-throughput pyrosequencing of bacterial community from two full-scale EBPR reactors of South Africa was investigated. Wastewater samples were collected in April 2015 from two treatment plants namely covered unit and uncovered unit at the Northern Wastewater Treatment Works (NWTW), Johannesburg.
