The 1:50,000 El Menizla geological sheet in Morocco is one of the four 1:50,000 map sheets (El Menizla, Jbel Toubkal, Talwat, Had Zrqtane) developed under the "First Phase Technical Cooperation Project of Geochemical and Geological Mapping in the Western Atlas Mountains, Morocco, assisted by the People's Republic of China". The sheet outcrops strata from most geological epochs since the Paleozoic Era. The main lithology of the Cambrian system consists of a suite of grayish-green medium-thin bedded sandstones and muddy siltstones, exhibiting flysch-like structural features. The Ordovician system is another suite of marine clastic deposits, comprising grayish-white medium-thick bedded quartz sandstones, black medium-thin bedded fine sandstones and siltstones intercalated with mudstones. The Silurian system is only exposed in a small tract in the northern part of the sheet, composed of black mudstones and shales. The Devonian system is also incompletely outcropped, sporadically occurring in the central region of the sheet, and is mainly represented by limestones. The Carboniferous system is extensively exposed in the south-central part of the sheet, primarily forming a flysch formation composed of medium-thin bedded sandstones and mudstones, with a small amount of thin-bedded limestones intercalated. The Permian and Triassic systems are continental sedimentary deposits consisting of red conglomerates, sandstones and claystones. The Jurassic system constitutes a paralic sedimentary suite composed of carbonates and red claystones. A substantial quantity of paleontological fossils have been discovered within the sheet. A small number of trilobites and shell fossils were collected from the Ordovician system; a large number of brachiopods, bivalves and other fossils are present in the Devonian system; plant fossils collected from the Carboniferous system were identified as *Gigantopteris*; trace fossils are developed in the Triassic system, with a small amount of plant fossils also observed; the Jurassic system yields the most abundant fossils, dominated by brachiopods and bivalves, with coral fossils also present.
