GBA introduces himself and explains how he became linked to the family of the Ouro Karambare chief, where his workshop is located. He talks about his status as a Gando, associated with the Fulani. He describes the current situation of his trade as a weaver, marked by a decline in customers due to a lack of interest in traditional loincloths. He then goes on to talk about how the work was organised in the past. In those days, weavers travelled from village to village during the dry season, within a radius of more than 100 km. They stayed with their clients, who had to provide them with food and lodging until the job was finished. Weavers from different localities often crossed paths and were able to share their technical knowledge. GBA then describes his apprenticeship with his father, which lasted three years. This apprenticeship was all the more crucial because a Gando man could not get married if he did not master weaving.
