Residual Surge Heights at Cuxhaven (1940-2021), Esbjerg (1950-2019), and Delfzijl (1971-2017)

Hourly time series of residual surge heights in meters (m) at the Cuxhaven (Germany, 53.87°N 8.72°E), Esbjerg (Denmark, 55.47°N 8.43°E), and Delfzijl (The Netherlands, 53.33°N 6.93°E) tide gauges. Residual surge heights were calculated from observed water levels by removing the astronomical tide signal estimated with UTide, and the mean sea-level rise by subtracting the annual mean water level. Periods 1940-2021 for Cuxhaven, 1950-2019 for Esbjerg, and 1971-2017 for Delfzijl. The observations were compiled from the Global Extreme Sea Level Analysis (GESLA; Cuxhaven: 01.01.1940–01.11.2020; Esbjerg: 01.01.1950–31.12.2019; Delfzijl: 01.01.1971–31.12.2017; Haigh et al., 2023), the Hereon Storm Surge Monitor (02.11.2020–31.12.2021 except 29.09.2021–30.09.2021; Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, 2023), and the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (29.09.2021–30.09.2021; Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes, 2021) Further information on surge data processing is found in Krieger et al., 2025.
