Reasons not to use bicycle in Italy 2020

Italians do not ride bikes very often. But why is that? A survey conducted in May 2020 revealed what Italians feel are the greatest barriers to bike use. For people who would not use a bike at all before the 2020 COVID-lockdown, the main reason indicated was the fact that roads are not safe for bikes (32 percent). At the second place (30 percent) came the fear that a bike would not be suitable for every season and/or weather condition one might encounter. This was actually the top reason indicated by the group of occasional bikers, with 44 percent of the respondents choosing this option. Unsafe roads were a concern for occasional bikers too, with 40 percent of the people interviewed indicating it as a disincentive to bike use.
