Real-time traffic volume monitoring supports adjustment of signal timing to mitigate congestion and enhance traffic efficiency. Analyzing flow data from accident-prone road sections allows for early warning of accident risks, reducing the likelihood of traffic accidents. Real-time monitoring of congested road sections delivers real-time traffic information to the public, enabling them to rationally plan travel routes. Additionally, real-time monitoring of incidents such as traffic accidents and road construction provides data support for emergency rescue and traffic diversion. Rational utilization of traffic volume statistics and traffic induction analysis data can optimize traffic light timing, improve road traffic efficiency, reduce traffic accident risks, and thereby promote urban sustainable development.
1. Data Sources:
① Traffic Volume (defined as the total number of vehicles detected by traffic detection loops): Outbound, left-turn, through and other directional flows can be monitored and collected via the software backend, while inbound flows require calculation;
② Saturated Flow (defined as the maximum number of vehicles that can pass within 15 minutes): It is a fixed value based on prior calculations;
③ Inbound and outbound traffic indices need to be computed.
2. Data Processing and Application:
①② Inbound traffic volume (a₁) = left-turn traffic volume (a₃) + through traffic volume (a₄) + right-turn traffic volume (a₅); Outbound traffic volume (a₂);
③ Inbound traffic index = (a₁ / 1476) × X; Outbound traffic index = (a₂ / 776) × X (where X is a specific index value)
