VPRS 18034 Assembly Minute Books

This series consists of minutes of the Legislative Assembly (VA 2585) created from 1898 to present.Minutes of the Legislative Assembly - the Lower House of the Parliament of Victoria, were recorded by the Clerks of the Chamber. The minutes were then used to create the Votes and Proceedings which are the official record of what is done in the Assembly.For reasons unknown, different minute books were utilised to document particular stages of Assembly proceedings. Also, the location of the Assembly minutes from the first half of the 20th Century is unknown. See consignment breakdown below.Consignment P1This consignment consists of a single volume of the general Assembly minutes from 1898.Consignment P2This consignment consists of general Assembly minutes from 1958 to 1998.Consignment P3This consignment consists of the minutes of the Committee of the Whole, that is, a committee of the whole House from 1954 to 1998. During this stage, the Assembly considered each clause of the bill under consideration and any amendments. This procedure was renamed Consideration in Detail in 2004.Consignment P4This consignment consists of minute books of the Committee of Supply and Finance from 1960 to 1968. This was a special committee of the whole House which considered appropriation bills (the State's Budget). This procedure was discontinued in 1973.
