The TPM fractions of the NTV aerosol and the 3R4F cigarette smoke were tested in the Ames assay to assess mutagenicity. The assay was performed using five tester strains, TA98, TA100, TA1535, TA1537 and TA102, in both the presence and absence of exogenous metabolic activation system. A slope parameter was calculated and defined as the mutagenic activity.
