In this project, we identified a Pacmavirus member, which belongs to Nucleocytoviricota and nests in phylogenetic level in the extended Asfarviridae family. Nucleocytoviricota are viruses thriving in a variety of environments. Our goal was to explore the diversity of the Asfarviridae family by isolating and characterizing new viral strains and the relation of those novel viral isolates with the rest of Nucleocytoviricota viruses.
