In this study, sulfate removal using an autotrophic biocathode under different initial pHs was studied in a double-chamber MEC. The performance of the biocathode was evaluated in terms of the current, sulfate removal and electron recovery efficiency. The biofilm of sulfate removal biocathodes was explored using high-throughput pyrosequencing to analyze the bacterial community.
