Encouraging Victorians to connect with, and to protect, the natural environment

Human activities are rapidly destroying the natural environment, threatening human civilizations as we know them. People who are more connected with nature do more to protect nature, thus (re)connecting people with nature is an important tool for conservation. This research sought to better understand connection with nature and how it may be nurtured among the Victorian public. Policies and programs that foster a sense of identity relative to nature, consider how nature is communicated, provide spaces that encourage active engagement with nature, and that maximise participation in activities such as environmental volunteering are likely to be useful.
