Metagenomic analysis of microbial community of natural sediment and enrichment cultures isolated in the area of gas seep of Lake Baikal

This work was aimed at studying the taxonomic structure of the bacterial community of the natural bottom sediment and accumulation cultures of methanotrophic bacteria obtained from the Lake Baikal gas sip. We evaluated the taxonomic diversity of bacterial communities in bottom sediments and accumulation cultures of methanotrophic bacteria by massive parallel sequencing of fragments of 16S rRNA genes. Sample collection was performed in early July 2015 in the area of deep-sea discharge of methane located on the underwater Posolskaya Banka. We analyzed a sample of an oxidized bottom sediment layer of 0-2 cm. Accumulation cultures were obtained in the laboratory using various sources of bound nitrogen in the medium and an additional source of C1 compounds in the form of a gradient of methanol concentrations.
