Abstract: (Critical) This program presents the use of the twist drill technique in the diagnosis and therapy of intracranial hemorrhagic disorders associated with trauma. The uses of this technique in the detection and therapy of acute and chronic bloody collections in the epidural, subdural and intracerebral compartments in emergency situations are demonstrated. Several weaknesses exist in this presentation including the authors claim that the location of the coronal suture may be seen or intimated by viewing the shaved scalp but is is not pointed out that on many occasions, standard measuremnts must be used to locate this important structure which is a landmark in making the anterior twist drill holes which they demonstrate. Also, protection of the underlying brain, blood vessels and meninges from injury by a twist drill is not sufficiently emphasized. Thus, this program is not recommended.
