DESIGNING THE CONTENT OF PROFESSIONAL SPEECH TRAINING FOR ECOLOGY STUDENTS: A CLIL-BASED GENRE AND LEXIS SYLLABUS FOR THE DIGITAL ESP CLASSROOM

Digital technology answers the question of how ecology students may practise speaking; it does not answer the question of what they should learn to say. Where content is left unspecified, technologically rich courses drift into general conversation delivered through new devices, and the professional dimension is lost. This paper addresses the content side of the methodology: it derives, from a needs-analysis logic and from the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) tradition, a structured syllabus of professional speech genres, communicative situations and lexical-grammatical resources for students of ecology and environmental science.
