We investigated the succession of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic community and the role of Myxococcaeae in freshly deposited cowpats and their effect on the underlying soil. Therefore, we analyzed the 16/18S SSU rRNA gene in 220 (16S) and 51 (18S) samples taken from eight cowpats and the subjacent soil over 70 days. Corallococcus coralloides was added to half of the cowpats.
