The X-ray Star-Formation Rate

The wellestablished Xray/FIR luminosity correlation suggests that Xrayluminosity may be a starformation rate (SFR) indicator. However recent work hasshown that there is some uncertainty concerning the slope and normalization ofXray/SFR correlation. It is likely that the variation observed is due in partto biases in the samples studied to date. We propose to observe anopticallyselected, local sample of galaxies to determine the Xray/SFRcorrelation in an unbiased fashion, using extinctioncorrected Halphaluminosities, the gold standard SFR indicator. The precise value of thiscorrelation will be a constraint on galaxy evolution models, particularlyconcerning the evolution of massive stars and the efficiency of heating the ISM. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
