Relational and Behavioral Impacts of ADHD: Network Systematic Literature Review (Dataset)

Introduction: ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by detrimental levels of hyperactivity-impulsivity and/or inattention. Methods: This study, through social network analysis, integrated the results of research published between 2001 and 2021 on the relational and behavioral impacts of ADHD on adolescent development. Research results were compiled and analyzed using the PRISMA 2020 recommendations. The databases consulted were: Scielo, Pubmed Central, Lilacs, PsycNet, Scopus, and Medline, using the descriptors Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD, Adolescent, Adolescents, Adolescence, and Teenager. The inclusion criteria were: articles must have been published in journals between January 2001 and January 2021, complete and available online, in English and Portuguese, which presented these terms in the title, abstract or body of the text, be peer-reviewed empirical studies and have adolescents as participants. Statistical analyses were performed using Excel 2019, and network analyses were performed using NodeXl. Results: Twenty-five articles were included, and network integration of the literature revealed a connection between a variety of negative impacts on adolescent development in relational and behavioral areas. Another finding was the feedback effect, with integration of impacts that go beyond the individual level, as they flow through the individual's social networks. Conclusions: Studies like this reveal the systemic nature of the issue and stimulate discussions on public policies that respond to the demands for specialized support for this population and their families.
