Inactivation of a single X chromosome in females as a result of sex chromosome evolution has been described in eutherian and marsupial mammals. In eutherian somatic tissues, both X chromosomes have the same probability of inactivation, whereas in the marsupial model organism Monodelphis domestica (opossum), the process has been described as paternally imprinted. X inactivation is variable between species and even between tissues. Therefore, we studied X inactivation profile in a different marsupial organism Macropus eugenii (wallaby). To test the parental origin of alleles in a female individual (daughter), we compared SNPs to those of her progenitors (mother and father), obtained by transcriptome sequencing of the three individuals.
