Leaf development is dynamic in response to environmental stress. Although such developmental plasticity in response to stress is well described at the physiological level, the underlying transcriptional changes that adjust leaf development and produce adaptive phenotypes remain poorly understood. Here, using single-nucleus transcriptome sequencing, we demonstrate that that drought-induced changes in leaf development involve promoting transcriptional responses linked to leaf maturation across leaves of all ages. Notably, we find that these transcriptional changes scale with stress intensity, ensuring the resulting tissue size is dose-responsive with environmental change. Using 10X transcriptomic approaches, we analyzed the transcriptional changes of Arabidopsis leaf tissue to different hormone treatments
