This study examines the cultural dimension of power distance in Romanian organizations and analyzes its impact on leadership, work culture, and the integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). Drawing on the theoretical framework of Geert Hofstede and a quantitative survey of 138 Romanian professionals working in urban, international companies, the study empirically explores the relationship between perceived hierarchy, autonomy, and future skills. The findings reveal that despite Romania’s nationally high power distance index of 90 (Hofstede Insights), there are already signs of cultural change in specific organizational contexts—toward greater participation, freedom of expression, and cooperative leadership. In particular, young and highly educated employees express a clear need for autonomy and professional development—conditions essential for the effective implementation of GenAI. The study concludes with practical recommendations for cultural transformation and outlines future research perspectives at the intersection of technological progress and cultural adaptation.
