ON THE QUESTION OF THE PREVALENCE OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE AND OBESITY
收藏资源简介:
Cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and depression are comorbidities of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but reports on chronic kidney disease (CKD) as a comorbidity of COPD are limited. [1] Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is not just a lung disease but a systemic condition characterized by inflammation and numerous other health problems. [2] These comorbidities significantly impact the course and outcome of COPD, making their timely identification and treatment critical. Known associations with COPD include cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and depression. However, the relationship between COPD and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is poorly understood, despite the fact that older age, smoking, and COPD itself are risk factors for CKD, which in turn increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. [3] Recent data on the frequent occurrence of microalbuminuria in patients with COPD suggest a possible link between these two conditions. [4] However, the diagnosis of CKD in elderly patients with COPD may be difficult if creatinine levels alone are relied upon. Therefore, cystatin C, as a more sensitive marker of early renal dysfunction, is becoming increasingly important. The Japanese Society of Nephrology has even approved a new formula for calculating glomerular filtration rate based on cystatin C levels, in addition to traditional methods [5]. All of the above served as a prerequisite for this study.
