E-cigarettes are devices intended to aerosolize oil or dried materials for the consumption of nicotine, cannabis, or other substances. However, there is a gap in research examining the potential for pathogenic molds to establish in e-cigarettes. In this study, we used surveys and culture-based and Illumina sequencing methods to examine the relationships between user variables (i.e. frequency of use, device cleaning habits, etc.), fungal colony growth, and which taxa were the most prevalent.
