Data from samples of the Matanuska Glacier (Chugack Mountains of south central Alaska) collected from the near surface glacial ice and the water fraction within the solar weathering crust during the summer of 2014 and 2015. The study objective was to document microbial diversity in the supraglacial environment and determine if the weather crust constituted a distinct ecosystem.
