The reaction of [RuCl2(PPh3)3] with methimazole (Hmt) under basic conditions provides the simple bis(chelate) complex [Ru(κ2-S,N-mt)2(PPh3)2], while the selenium analogue HmtSe provides an intact coordinated diorganotriselenane [Ru{κ3-Se,N,N‘-Se(mtSe)2}Cl2(PPh3)]. Bidentate mtSe coordination is however observed in the complexes [RuR(κ2-Se,N)(CO)(PPh3)2] (R = H, CHCHC6H4Me-4).
