We used RNA-seq to identify candidate genes acting in C4 and crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) systems in Portulaca oleracea leaves and stems subjected to drought. This allowed us to characterize in-depth transcript abundance patterns during the photosynthetic transitions and assess C4/CAM connectivity.
