Urban climate data coverage and coastal tourism destinations in Spain: replication data and code

Replication data and code for the article "Who gets modelled? Population thresholds and the urban climate evidence gap in coastal tourism destinations". The deposit supports three analyses sharing a common set of municipalities: the 53 that the Spanish National Statistics Institute designates as tourist points in the eleven provinces bordering the Mediterranean. The first analysis audits which of them fall inside a modelled domain of the European Environment Agency urban heat island product and tests whether that classification is predicted by resident population or by August tourism pressure. The second examines how municipal green cover relates to tourism intensity once administrative area is held constant. The third works within the six municipalities where modelled data exist, estimating the association between tree cover and modelled heat island intensity and testing how far that estimate survives standard spatial diagnostics. Contents include the unmodified primary downloads from INE tables 2078 and 68065, derived municipal indicators computed from ESA WorldCover 2021 v200, official municipal boundaries, a systematic 300 m sample of 12,840 modelled cells across the six covered municipalities, a per-municipality count of valid modelled cells, and the scripts that regenerate every statistic reported in the article together with its four figures. Two matters of data treatment are documented in full in the README. INE suppresses August 2025 overnight stays for three municipalities in the sample under statistical confidentiality; these are treated as missing rather than as zero, since a suppression indicates an undisclosed quantity and not an absence of tourism. Separately, the script that extracts the cell sample from the modelled raster was not preserved in an earlier version of this deposit and has been reconstructed; it reproduces the previously published cell counts exactly, and the deviation affecting the two land-cover fractions is quantified. The modelled raster and the WorldCover tiles are not redistributed here and remain openly available from their producers.
