A Staphylococcus schleiferi dog skin isolate was sequenced using a Pacific Biosciences RSII platform with C4-P2 chemistry and assembled into a complete de novo whole genome. S. schleiferi is often found in humans and companion animals as a commensal and/or a pathogenic organism. Our goal was to 1) obtain the first S. schleiferi whole genome sequence, and 2) perform comparative genomics using 4 clinical S. schleiferi isolates.
