Arhodomonas sp. strain KWT2

Arhodomonas sp. strain KWT2 is a gram negative, mesophilic, hydrocarbon-metabolizing, halophilic bacterium belonging to the family Ectothiorhodospiraceae (purple sulfur bacteria). It was isolated from an enrichment culture established with a hydrocarbon-contaminated water sample obtained from a saline pond near crude oil extraction operations. The primary objective of sequencing and assembling its genome is to gain insights about its metabolic capabilities and biotechnological potential. Moreover, while Arhodomonas are a unique group of non-pigmented, non-phototrophic bacteria within the Ectothiorhodospiraceae family, quality reference genomes for the genus are limited. Hence, this project also aims to provide a high-quality reference genome for Arhodomonas, facilitating a more comprehensive understanding and assessment of its genomic characteristics and phylogenetic placement.
