Resource Recovery from Waste: Towards a Circular Economy - Economic Analysis Data

Road dusts contain platinum group precious metals (PMs), which can be recovered for use in catalytic oil upgrading. A PM market analysis between 1992 to 2018 tracks the significant price changes for palladium, platinum, gold, and rhodium. The costs of PM extraction and production of bio-neocatalysts are estimated, utilising an original research economic analysis from 2008, and updating the costs to 2016-2018 quotes. <br>A summary of the amount of catalyst required to upgrade heavy oils and pyrolysis bio-oils, in addition to the calculation of equivalent tailpipe emissions.<br>Finally, a comparative assessment of total upgrading costs from commercial heavy oil and viable pyrolysis oil production technologies has been calculated, utilising commercial catalyst costs in comparison to the estimated production costs of the bio-neocatalysts.
