To reveal the phylogenetic relationships among seven species of the periodical cicadas Magicicada, we obtained paired-end sequence data of mRNA expressed in the head part of adults using the Illumina HiSeq2000 platforms. We used RNAlater-fixed sample of 28 adult male and females collected in 2011 (Brood XIX), 2013 (Brood II), 2014 (Brood III), and 2015 (Brood XXIII). The samples include both 13-y and 17-y species.
