The invention relates to a surface covering element (1) comprising at least one plate-like carrier core (2)， at least one protective layer (4) and a decorative layer (3) arranged between the plate-like carrier core (2) and the at least one protective layer (4). The plate-like carrier core (2) consists of a solid， load-bearing carrier material and has at least one top side (5) and one underside (6) arranged opposite the top side (5) as well as at least one first and second， oppositely arranged and each the top and underside (5， 6) connecting side surfaces (7， 8). The decorative layer (3) is formed by a printed film which is firmly connected to the carrier core (2)， the printed film (3) at least the top (5) and the first and second side surfaces (7， 8) of the plate-like carrier core (2) at least partially covered and wherein the protective layer (4) covers at least the printed film connected to the carrier core (2) over the entire surface.
