Livelihoods – Baseline Mesoamerican Agro-environmental Program (MAP) – phase II

This study was used to characterize the rural families with which MAP works. The characterization will be used to quantify the impact of the program, particularly in relation to socio-economic aspects and adoption of improved practices. This study was carried out many years after MAP started, therefore this study is not representative of the initial conditions of the families visited. This study will be the baseline for the second phase of the MAP program. Two types of families were selected. 1. Families that participated in field schools from the MAP Projects (Mesoterra, Innovaciones Café, Innovaciones hortalizas, and Centroamerica Cacao Project). 2. Control group, families that do not participate in MAP activities. Within the families that participated in MAP projects, a randomly stratified sampling was used, simulating the distribution of the population according to the percentage families working with each project within MAP.
