Determinants of resistance to blasticidin S and a novel analog in Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus

A novel natural product analog of the antibiotic blasticidin S has improved potency, but comparable inhibitory activity of ribosomal translation in a range of clinically important bacteria. The genetic determinants of resistance to blasticidin S and its analog were determined by whole genome sequencing of laboratory-evolved resistant mutants of Staphylococcus aureus, in order to understand the difference in mode of action between these two related drugs.
