Ageing is associated with neurodegeneration and progression of multiple sclerosis. Oxidized phosphatidylcholine is a neurotoxic molecule found in multiple sclerosis lesions which require microglia for clearance in the CNS. To determine how ageing impacts microglia function and their ability to protect the CNS from oxidized phosphatidylcholine mediated neurodegeneration, scRNAseq and spatial RNAseq were performed.
