The RIL population was obtained from a cross between Heizhigu ( a foxtial millet cultivar) with narrow leaves as the female parent and Changnong 35 ( another foxtial millet cultivar) with wide leaves as the male parent. Since heading stage and grain filling stage are the two critical periods for growth and development of flag leaf, and the flag leaf width of Heizhigu and Changnong 35 showed significant differences at heading and grain filling stage. We chose plag leaf as plant material during these two periods to carry out transcriptome analysis to determine the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between biparents.
