Gene database of Aeromonas hydrophila ATCC 7966

Present in both freshwater and brackish water, <i>Aeronomas hydrophila</i> is a human pathogen that is the causative agent for a variety of conditions such as gastroenteritis and septicaemia. The bacterium possesses a set of cell surface appendages that makes it particularly concerning as a pathogen. Chief amongst this is a Type II secretion system that enables the injection of aerolysin toxin into host cells. Notwithstanding this, <i>A. hydrophila</i> also possesses Type IV pilli useful for attachment to cells and extracellular proteases that can cause tissue damage. This work sought to provide some fundamental information of <i>A. hydrophila </i>ATCC 7966 by parsing the GenBank annotated genome file of the bacterium (GenBank accession number: NCBI Reference Sequence: NC_008570.1). Using an in-house MATLAB software, a gene database for the bacterium comprising gene identifier, gene function and gene sequence was built. Information presented in this dataset should find use in a variety of fundamental microbiological studies seeking to understand the pathogenesis mechanism of <i>A. hydrophila</i> through generating specific mutants via genome editing.<br><br>
