Microbial fibre metabolism in the small intestine and implications for celiac disease

Celiac disease (CeD) is an immune-mediated condition driven by dietary gluten resulting in small intestinal mucosal inflammation, injury and myriad symptoms that require a lifelong gluten-free diet (GFD). Most patients improve on a GFD; however this dietary restriction leads to nutrient deficiencies including fiber. We characterize the duodenal microbiota community of Non-CeD, CeD patients and CeD patients in a GFD,
