Thermococcus waiotapuensis strain:WT1 Genome sequencing and assembly. Thermococcus waiotapuensis strain:WT1

T. waiotapuensis WT1, was isolated and described by Gonzalez et al. 2021, however a sequenced genome has not been published. As one of the only known representatives of freshwater inhabitants within the genus, this species is of interest for whole genome sequencing. The type strain was isolated from Waiotapu (Aotearoa-New Zealand), where the Maori iwi (tribe) Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa are kaitiaki (guardians). We acknowledge their mana whenua (customary rights) over the archaeon, its genome and the location in which it was isolated.
