Single crystal inelastic neutron scattering and neutron diffraction can provide exquisitely detailed information about the dynamic and static correlations in a given material. Accurately modelling the data from these measurements requires absorption corrections. Whilst there are a number of basic absorption corrections which can be applied for samples of simple geometries (cylinders or spheres), it is more often the case that the samples being measured have an irregular and highly anisotropic morphologies which require bespoke absorption models. In this proof-of-principle proposal, we aim to use neutron imaging to measure the morphology of an irregularly shaped crystal. We will use this data to develop a bespoke absorption model based on the measured shape of the crystal.
